AI recruiting software and AI interviewers, compared

AI recruiting software comes in three kinds: AI interviewers that an employer buys to screen its own applicants (HireVue, Interviewer.AI, Alex, HeyMilo, Ribbon, Sapia.ai, Tenzo AI, Talview, Eightfold and Paradox below), AI built into job boards and professional networks (LinkedIn, SEEK and Wellfound), and AI recruiters that bring you candidates their own AI has already interviewed or spoken to (Jack & Jill and ROUND.1). The ten interviewers differ in how the candidate answers (video, voice, phone, chat or text), what the AI hands back, the languages they claim and whether they publish a price. Eight of the ten say on their own pages that a person makes the hiring decision, and two publish prices. Every row quotes the vendor's own page as read on 15 October 2026, and nobody is ranked.

AI interviewers sold to employers

Your team runs these on its own applicants.

Source for each row: the vendor's own pages listed under Sources, read 15 October 2026. Prices are written as the pages show them.

Talview and Eightfold take opposite positions on what the AI watches: Talview says Ivy reads non-verbal cues, while Eightfold says its interviewer does not analyse facial expressions, tone of voice or accent, and Sapia.ai's interview has no video at all. If that matters to you or to the rules where you hire, ask each vendor what its model takes as input.

AI inside job boards and professional networks

Some employers meet AI screening without buying an AI interviewer, because the job board or network they already post on runs it.

ProductWhat the AI doesDoes it score or rank?Availability, as statedSource, date
LinkedIn Hiring AssistantFinds candidates, drafts messages and "pre-screens interested candidates"; voice prescreening is listed as "Coming soon"Not stated on the page read"an add-on to LinkedIn Recruiter", in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and ItalianLinkedIn product page, read 15 Oct 2026
LinkedIn Hiring Pro AI interviewsInvites up to 40 applicants to "an audio or video (if available) screening call with an AI interviewer"Yes: "a 5-point rating based on your ideal responses", which the hirer can turn offLinkedIn calls it "an early-stage" feature, and says Hiring Pro-led invites are "available to a limited group of users"; applicants who decline "will not be automatically disqualified"LinkedIn Help a8330369 and a6898871, read 15 Oct 2026
SEEK AI pre-screenInterviews the candidate "via voice conversationally", or by typing if the candidate prefers, in English; the hirer receives "the written response", not the recordingNo: it "does not decide, score or recommend whether a candidate should progress"Optional for the candidate; included with Basic, Advanced and Premium adsSEEK Hong Kong and Singapore help pages, updated 20 Jul 2026
SEEK Assist"Assist conducts AI voice interviews" on your top candidatesYes: "Assist scores and ranks applicants against your specific hiring criteria"An add-on described on SEEK's employer sitesSEEK "AI at SEEK" pages, Hong Kong and Singapore, read 15 Oct 2026
Wellfound AI interviewThe candidate records "a single conversational AI interview call" once, and it is sent "with every application"Not stated; applications with the interview attached "get seen first"Candidates on WellfoundWellfound candidates page, read 15 Oct 2026

On SEEK, the pre-screen gathers answers and leaves the decision to the hirer, and Assist scores and ranks applicants.

AI recruiters that bring you candidates

These services bring you candidates their own AI has already spoken to or interviewed. Their pricing differs, and Jack & Jill's depends on where you are.

ServiceWhat the AI doesHow the company pays, as statedSource, date
Jack & JillCandidates talk to Jack, which "takes about 10 minutes"; Jill "brings you a focused set of strong candidates from Jack's network, then directly introduces you when there is a fit"Depends on location. The US page: Hire Jill is "$199 per active role per month on annual billing, or $249 billed monthly", with nothing more to pay on a hire. The UK and Europe page: "10% of first year salary", only "when Jill makes a hire", refunded in full "If a hire leaves or is dismissed in the first 3 months"Jack & Jill pages, read 15 Oct 2026
ROUND.1Each candidate takes one AI first-round video interview, which is scored and reused for the other roles the candidate choosesCandidates pay nothing. Employers: [FEE & GUARANTEE WORDING — pending Alex O, #4530]/ai-info

How agency and pay-on-hire pricing works more widely is in how much do recruiters charge.

What to check before you buy

Who decides

Eight of the ten interviewers say a person makes the hiring decision. Ask where in your process the product can reject or hold back a candidate without a person looking, and whether you can turn scores off. LinkedIn's help page, for one, says hirers can turn ratings off and "still receive an interview summary without a numerical rating".

What is scored

Ask what the model takes as input: the words only, or also video, voice or "non-verbal cues". Ask for the scoring rubric, and whether each score comes with the evidence behind it.

How candidates answer

A text interview (Sapia.ai) needs no camera, and neither do the phone and messaging channels that Alex, HeyMilo, Tenzo AI and Paradox offer. A video interview (Eightfold, Talview) does.

Languages

Ask for the list of interview languages. A count tells you little, and HeyMilo and Eightfold each give two different numbers on their own pages.

Bias audits and the rules where you hire

PlaceRuleWhat it requires
New York City, USLocal Law 144 of 2021, enforced from 5 July 2023A bias audit "within one year of the use of the tool", a public summary of the results, and notices to candidates "10 business days prior to use"
Illinois, USArtificial Intelligence Video Interview Act, 820 ILCS 42, in force 1 January 2020Before the interview: notice that AI may be used, an explanation of "how the artificial intelligence works and what general types of characteristics it uses", and consent
European UnionAI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Annex III point 4(a)AI "intended to be used for the recruitment or selection of natural persons", including to "analyse and filter job applications, and to evaluate candidates", is high-risk. After Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 of 8 July 2026, those obligations apply from 2 December 2027

In Hong Kong and Singapore, the data protection regulators have published guidance on AI that covers hiring. Both are set out in what is an AI interview, and how to choose an assessment is in skills-based hiring.

How we compared

We read every vendor page on 15 October 2026 and quote each product as its own page describes it. No row uses a rival's description, a review site or an analyst estimate, so a cell says "not published" or "none named on the pages read" where the vendor's pages say nothing. Where a vendor's pages disagree with each other, as on HeyMilo's and Eightfold's language counts and Tenzo AI's interview channels, both versions are shown.

We picked AI interviewers sold to employers, the AI inside large job boards and networks, and AI recruiters that bring candidates. The list is not complete. Applicant tracking systems with AI features, sourcing-only tools and talent networks for contract work are left out. We did not test any product, so nothing here measures how well a product works, and the order in each table carries no meaning. LinkedIn's Hiring Pro row says only what LinkedIn's help pages say about who can use it. SEEK's rows quote its Hong Kong and Singapore employer pages, which carry the same text.

The ROUND.1 row is filled from /ai-info, the page ROUND.1 keeps for its own facts.

Where ROUND.1 fits

ROUND.1 is a hiring marketplace for Hong Kong and Singapore, built by h.work. Each candidate takes one AI first-round video interview, in a web browser with a camera and a microphone. It lasts about 20 minutes by default (roles can be shorter), 30 at most, and each role is interviewed in one language, English or Mandarin Chinese.

The interview is scored competency by competency, and each score is backed by quotes from the transcript. Accent, pronunciation, grammar, fluency, personality traits and protected characteristics are not scored. The same interview is reused for the other roles the candidate chooses, so a candidate is not interviewed again for each company.

A company first sees the scored evaluation without the candidate's name or contact details, which open when it shortlists the candidate. A person at the company decides whom to hire. Candidates pay nothing, nothing is charged before a hire, and there is no subscription. The full list of facts and limits is on ROUND.1, explained.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI recruiting software?

AI recruiting software is any product that uses AI to do part of a recruiter's work: finding candidates, screening applications, interviewing, scoring answers or scheduling. Most products for employers fall into three groups: AI interviewers an employer buys to screen its own applicants, AI features inside job boards and professional networks such as LinkedIn and SEEK, and AI recruiters that bring candidates to the employer.

What does an AI interviewer do?

It asks a candidate questions on video, by voice or in text, then turns the answers into something a recruiter can read: a transcript, a summary and usually a score against the role's criteria. HireVue's AI Interviewer page says the AI evaluates each response against the role's criteria and explains why. Sapia.ai's interview is text only, while Ribbon runs voice and video interviews.

Which AI recruiting tool is best?

No tool is best for every employer, and this page ranks none of them. The products differ in how candidates answer, whether the AI scores or ranks, which languages they claim and whether a price is published. Start from your volume, the languages your candidates speak, the rules where you hire, and whether you want software your team runs or a service that brings candidates.

Does the AI decide who gets hired?

Eight of the ten AI interviewer vendors compared here say on their own pages that a person makes the hiring decision. Alex writes that it does not automate hiring decisions, and Eightfold writes that its AI never decides and recruiters do. On the pages we read, HeyMilo and Paradox state no such rule. Ask a vendor where its product can reject a candidate without a person.

Are AI interviews legal?

The rules depend on where you hire. New York City requires a bias audit within one year before an automated employment decision tool is used, a public summary of the audit and notices to candidates. Illinois requires notice, an explanation of how the AI works and consent before an AI-analysed video interview. The EU AI Act lists AI used to recruit or select people as high-risk, with those obligations applying from 2 December 2027 after the July 2026 amendment. This is general information, not legal advice; check the official source for your case.

How much does AI recruiting software cost?

Two of the ten AI interviewer vendors compared here published prices on 15 October 2026. Interviewer.AI's Essential plan was $199 a month, billed monthly, with 50 AI interview credits a month. Ribbon's Growth plan was $499 a month, billed annually, for 100 interviews a month. The other eight ask you to request a demo or a quote, and Sapia.ai says it charges per hire.

How is ROUND.1 different from AI interviewer software?

ROUND.1 is a hiring marketplace for Hong Kong and Singapore. Each candidate takes one AI first-round video interview, which is scored and reused for the other roles the candidate chooses. A company first sees the scored evaluation without the candidate's name or contact details, and a person at the company decides whom to hire. Candidates pay nothing.
